CT Scans: A Computed Tomography (CT) is a painless procedure in which a patient is placed on a bed while the machine rotates rapidly around the body, taking over 100 pictures in sequence. These two-dimensional images are:
Full Body Scan: A full body scan is a painless procedure which takes a short amount of time to complete. A patient does not have to prepare for this type of test. This scan is particularly important for screening current or potential illnesses. The procedure encompasses the area from the tip of the thyroid, down to the pelvic bone.
Heart Scan: A Heart Scan is a great tool to help prevent the onset of potential heart attacks and the need for surgery. A physician is able to diagnose and treat heart disease with a greater degree of certainty before blockage can build up. The blockage, referred to as calcium deposits, form years before symptoms of heart disease appear. Since the best news today is that heart disease is treatable and reversible, a heart scan is another way to prevent potential problems. A physician can now recommend not only diet and exercise, but also medication that might prevent future problems. This painless procedure takes approximately 20 minutes and the patient is restricted from drinking caffeine or exercising two hours prior to the test. Also, individuals who have pacemakers, had stints or a heart bypass, will be unable to participate in this scan.
Lung Scan: Having a lung scan is an excellent method of detecting lung cancer, Emphysema, Aneurysm of the Aorta, and other lung ailments earlier. Only a CT scan is able to detect small nodules of lung cancer at an earlier and potentially more curable stage than a standard x-ray. In a short time, the CT scan is able to capture clear images of the lungs. There is no preparation required of a patient prior to the lung scan.
Virtual Colonoscopy: With a Virtual Colonoscopy, it is possible to view the entire colon without sedatives, excessive discomfort or truly invasive procedures. The procedure does require cleansing of the bowel before the scan and the bowel to be filled with air to obtain clear imaging. This is slightly uncomfortable and causes a feeling of “fullness” in the abdomen. The exam is effective in detecting polyps that might prove to be malignant. The entire procedure takes less than an hour to perform. The patient is given a two-day preparation kit which includes a diet and laxatives. The day of the exam, the patient will drink Barium. Please schedule 3-4 days in advance, so that you are able to pick up your diet kit at the center.
